Sony Unveils 18,000 Lumens SXRD Movie Projector

Sony Unveils 18,000 Lumens SXRD Movie ProjectorSony has a new movie projector for commercial theaters in the form of the SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) line-up that includes 4K projection technology. With 18,000 ANSI lumens brightness at your disposal, an exhibitor can easily display 4K content on screens 50 feet and above.

Sony chose an appropriate location in the USC Entertainment Technology Center's Digital Cinema Lab in Los Angeles to unveil the new SXRD projectors, during a special screening of The Da Vinci Code (on a side note, how many guys saw the movie and liked it?). Using Sony's LMT-100 4K Media Block, the content was delivered from a hard drive for the demonstration.

The currently available projectors in the SXRD series include SRX-R110 (10,000 lumens) and SRX-R105 (5,000 lumens) (seen on the right). The projector's 4K resolution actually refers to the 4096x2160 pixel matrix delivering as much as four times the resolution of home theater systems. Sony.
